The average stay in hospital for a patient having a hip replacement is seven days - but not at the orthopaedic hospital in Oswestry.
At the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, hip replacements are done in just three days.
Their enhanced recovery technique means that patients mobilise earlier and go home sooner than they do with the traditional approach to the operation.
This four-part film series explains the enhanced recovery technique, how it differs from the norm and what the results can be. The series follows one patient's journey from pre-surgery consultation through the anaesthetic process and the surgical procedure to the post operative care.
This film looks at the positive approach the surgical team takes with patients – changing their mindset and reassuring them they will be able to walk on their new hip only a few hours after the operation.
