Events for Health Information Week in the West Midlands 2nd-8th July 2012
Birmingham & Solihull:
- Mon 2nd July - an exhibition to be held at City Hospital in the Birmingham treatment centre. The event will be to raise awareness on health by asking several organisations to provide a wide range of information on promoting health and well being with the aim of reducing health inequalities. The event will allow us to exhibit a variety of information which will be made available to the public and staff at the hospital.
- Tues 3rd July – 2:30 – 4:30 - A health information display for patients and carers will be available at Lyndon Clinic, Solihull. Staff from PALS will be available to help answer any queries.

Wed 4th July - 11am-3pm at BID Services in Ladywood, Birmingham. Macmillan information will be available and they will be asking the deaf community to come along and give their feedback about the information. They would like to know people’s views and opinions on how this information could be changed and made more accessible.
- Thursday 5th July - 9:30 – 4:30 - A health information display for staff will be available the Uffculme Centre, Moseley. Library staff will be on hand to promote how the library can help them answer health information questions which their patients and carers may raise.
- Thursday 5th July - Northfield Library holding a special keep fit & healthy day as well as displays all week
All week:
- Health Exchange will be holding a number of events throughout the week at our community sites and in the city centre with our mobile unit.
- Birmingham Women's NHS Foundation Trust - A poster and leaflet display in the entrance area. The display with be up a week before and after HIW. We will have a range of health information on display and patients will be able to access a wide variety of leaflets.
- Heartlands Hospital will have ward visits and library services awareness throughout the week.
Black Country:
Dudley:
The Dudley NHS Health Check programme is open to all adults aged between 40 and 74 years of age (who have not already been diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke or kidney disease). It offers a free assessment of cardiovascular disease risk and includes a lifestyle assessment, BMI calculation, and blood pressure, blood glucose and blood cholesterol measurement. Clients are given their cardiovascular disease risk, and in Dudley Solutions 4 Health are additionally providing them with free referrals to slimming, exercise, healthy eating and weight management services available locally, and discounted vouchers for local leisure centres, according to their health needs.

Mobile library driver will run between all four town primary schools, delivering a book about the Olympics to each school. Library staff will also be on hand to read to children and promote exercise.

Telford & Wrekin:
- Tuesday 3rd July - Event in Telford Town Centre with the health improvement team focusing on seven key areas – quit smoking, lose weight, drink sensibly, be more active, eat more healthily, feel positive and breastfeeding.

Thursday 5th July – Diabetic Lunch @ Donnington Lifelong Learning Centre, Donnington, Telord. This is an event supported by the local Donnington VOICE project and the local community centre, for patients who have Diabetes and live in the Donnington. There is food to try and recipes to share.

Friday 6th July, 10.30-11.30am ‘Chat n Choose’ event at Madeley library, which will be themed on ‘Family health for summer’. We’ll be looking at healthy eating, keeping safe in the sun, and other health and safety issues relevant to the summer holidays. We will be putting together a display for the event, which will then continue on display in one or more of our nine branches. We will also compile a quiz, available on the day and online, with prizes of healthy eating books.

Free information and resources on ways in which you can improve your health and wellbeing will be available during Health Information Week (2nd - 8th July) at Nuneaton, Leamington and Rugby libraries. These displays and resources are being provided by Public Health Warwickshire and Warwickshire County Council Library and Information Service and will be available throughout the week during library opening hours.
In addition, a number of organisations will also be available at the Health Information Week stand to provide information and support about health, wellbeing and steps to a healthier lifestyle. Themes of Healthy lifestyles - especially physical activity and healthy eating; My Health Library - on-line health resources; Books on Prescription / Sorted! Book displays.

Information and Advice on Healthy Lifestyles to include: Weight Management, Drinking Responsibly, Stop Smoking, Exercise and Activities. We can also provide information and contacts for other health related services and groups on request.

Thursday 5th July – 10am – 2pm. Drop in Quit Smoking sessions at Kidderminster Library. No need to book. Health trainers are here to offer advice to support you to stop smoking. There will be a new Health and Wellbeing Information noticeboard in the library starting this week.
