This video, from the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry in Shropshire, demonstrates exercises and techniques that will make it easier for patients to get back on their feet after knee replacement surgery.
The DVD covers everyday activities such as getting in and out of bed, walking with crutches, getting up and down stairs, getting dressed, using the bathroom and getting in and out of the car.
It also shows the key knee exercises that really speed up the recovery process.
The exercises, which can be done little and often throughout the day, help patients to regain a normal range of movement and strengthen the muscles around the knee.
Treated carefully, the knee can cope with a lot more strain than people might think, so patients are encouraged to get out of bed on the same day as the surgery is carried out.
The DVD provides detailed, step-by-step instructions in how to be independent and safe as soon as possible after the operation.
The video concludes with a reminder to practise the exercises regularly and prepare any post-surgery home needs before the operation.
