A vending machine concept and finger print technology have come together to create a secure and efficient drugs cabinet at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.
Known as the Medi 365, it reads finger prints so only authorised staff can use it. This ensures it is safe without staff having to carry keys.
When staff order the medicine using a touch screen, the drawer in which the drugs are stored lights up and opens.
Like a vending machine, it only opens far enough to allow the correct amount of medicine to be removed.
The Medi 365 proves it is possible to make things easier for staff, safer for patients and save money all at the same time.
