The Health Trainers Service in Solihull is designed to help people live healthier lives.
Based in the You+ lifestyle shop in Chelmsley Wood shopping centre, the service and offers one to one consultations with a health trainer.
The service is confidential, free and available to anyone over the age of 18 living in Chelmsley Wood, Fordbridge, Smiths Wood or Kingshurst.
People living in these areas have shorter than average life expectancies than those living in more affluent neighbouring areas.
Unhealthy lifestyles are thought to be a major contributory cause of lower life expectancies.
Solihull Care Trust hopes to change things by helping people to make healthier lifestyle choices.
Harpreet Sohal, health trainer service manager, says: "The health trainer service was set up in Solihull to try and reduce the health inequality gap.
"Somebody living in the north of the borough is expected to live 10 years less than somebody in the south."
Taking the service into the community makes it more accessible to the people who most need help to become healthier, but may be reluctant to seek it out themselves.
Being based in a shopping centre means people can just drop in for an informal chat with a health trainer.
