Babies born at Warwick Hospital labour suite move with their mothers to Swan ward, the postnatal suite.

It is there that midwives help the new mothers with feeding, hygiene and parenting. Women are able to bond with their baby and ask questions in a 24-hour-a-day supportive environment.

Swan ward manager Rachel Austin, who has been working in midwifery for 23 years, admits her role can be physically and mentally tough. But when a healthy and happy new mother leaves the ward with her baby, thanking staff for excellent care, it makes the hard work all worthwhile.
