Dr David Robinson, a consultant obstetric anaesthetist, explains his role in maternity care.

Most pregnant women will not come into contact with an obstetric anaesthetist during their pregnancies and labours. However those that have Caesarean sections will.

Women who have existing health conditions that could be affected by anaesthesia, might be invited to attend a clinic appointment to discuss this.

Dr David Robinson was working at Warwick Hospital maternity unit in 2011.
